Area: Windows 10
Issue: Installing RedBeam on Windows 10.
Generally Caused By: Upgrading a PC or operating system
Level of Complexity: Medium
In order for Asset Tracking, Check In Check Out, and Inventory . Tracking to perform properly, the PC must have the following:
Disable User Account Control (UAC)
Leaving UAC on during installation may prevent some features in RedBeam from working correctly. If your company network policy requires UAC, you can turn it back on after RedBeam has been installed. Type “user account control” in the Windows search box to the right of the Windows Start button. The User Account Control settings button should appear at the top of the search menu. Click it
UAC will be at the third tick mark by default. To turn UAC off, move the slider down to the “Never notify” setting and click OK.
Enable .Net 3.5 Support
This is not only necessary for installing RedBeam Asset Tracking, but also for SQL Server and Microsoft Office.
Type “turn windows features on or off” in the Windows Search box and click the resulting tile at the top of the search menu.
The first feature listed should be .Net Framework 3.5. Expand it, check the HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation check boxes, and click OK.
You may be prompted to use Windows Update to download the required files.
You may get an error installing .Net 3.5 in Windows 10. If this happens, there’s a simple command to install this feature using your Windows 10 installation media. Open a command prompt by typing “CMD” in the Windows Search box, right click the resulting tile at the top of the search menu, and click “Run as administrator.
In the command line window, type “DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:E:\sources\sxs” where E is the drive for you Windows 10 installation media.
Once the .Net 3.5 feature has been installed, please restart Windows.
